University of California, Los Angeles Intramural Sports Field

A green field green roof. The UCLA Intramural Sports Field is a 10-acre facility located on top of a subterranean parking structure. The site resembles a vast golf green, and is popular for sporting events, concerts, festivals and other activities. College fields take a beating, so promoting quick growth for the grass was important. To achieve this, we installed a two-foot-thick granular planting medium, along with a technical irrigation system.

 

The rooftop location meant drainage issues, so we installed a herringbone subdrainage system. The result is a field that works smarter and plays harder.
