Palisades Garden Walk & Town Square Tree Relocation

Client: City of Santa Monica

Location: Santa Monica, CA

Landscape Architect: James Corner Field Operations

Sure, we can move that

When the ink was dry on the plans for what the Santa Monica Dail Press called the “World Class Park, in a World Class Civic Center, in a World Class City”, one of the first orders of business was to start the long process of relocating the massive existing trees. It can take months to plan and execute the process from start to finish. Among the trees selected for relocation were those affectionately known as “The Three Amigos” (two 264” box and one 240” box Morton Bay Figs).

We coordinated the excavation, boxing, hoisting, moving, replanting, and maintenance of all the selected trees.  Our scope of work also included other preparations for the construction of the park: demolition of existing park facilities, grading, site prep, and SWPPP erosion control implementation. We are happy to report that all of the relocated trees have successfully made the move and are thriving.
