A “Complete Green Street” comes to Santa Monica

The City of Santa Monica envisioned the refurbishment of Ocean Park Blvd. as a chance to turn an older, auto-oriented street into and enhanced streetscape environment that is pedestrian and bicycle friendly.  Now that it is complete, the Boulevard is much more attractive, sporting over 100 new trees, wider sidewalks, planted medians, new site furniture, brightly painted bike lanes, and an environmentally friendly bio-swale planter, which instead of a typical drainage system run through pipes, captures significant volumes of urban run-off and returns it to the aquifer before it can enter the waters of the Santa Monica Bay.
