An oasis for palm readers. LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States. With objects ranging from ancient times to present, it boasts 100,000 objects of art. And that's not even counting the palm trees. As part of the museum's Transformation Campaign, we helped artist Robert Irwin to realize his vision by installing 100 palm trees (they're near Michael Heizer's "Levitated Mass," the suspended 340-ton granite monolith that you can walk under). This world-renowned palm collection -- which consists of 30 varieties from around the world -- is planted in the ground and in planter boxes. More importantly, it is planted in art. It's part of the permanent art collection. Nothing says Los Angeles like palm trees, after all.
